The PALACE SITTE is situated at streets Nádražní and Macharova in the municipalities Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz. It closes one of the city blocks designed by the renowned Austrian architect and urban planner from Vienna Camillo Sitte (1843-1903).

It was him who in 1894 designed a functional, aesthetical and interesting concept of city blocks surrounding the street Nádražní, which is the main street connecting the main train station with the city center. In the center of the development is today’s Náměstí Svatopluka Čecha (formerly Markt Platz) with a Church of the Virgin Mary‘s Immaculate Conception by Camillo Sitte. A network of streets has been designed around the square, some of them bend, to achieve optical closing accentuating the important dominant buildings, namely the mentioned church and some corner buildings. The modern PALACE SITTE building is now entering the more than hundred years old urban design and its functional and aesthetical concept. We have aimed the building is incorporated into the existing structures, without copying them, but rather standing out as a unique modern jewel within the historical context. We have been trying to continue the Camillo Sitte concepts and his Přívoz urban design. We have realized that together with the opposite building from the end of 19th century we are creating an access into an important historical and urbanistic city area – the new entrance and dominant feature of Přívoz. We have taken the liberty to use the name of the Vienna architect and urban planner as a memory of his bold and civilized work. We hope that the PALACE SITTE shall also become a bold and civilized project, a symbol of the new development of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz.
